In the northern hemisphere, if its january, is it also january in the southern hemisphere?

i know the southern hemisphere and the northern hemisphere are like opposites, but are the months the same? my science cl is going over earth and space and planets and that kinda stuff, mr. h told me to look this up, i can't seem to find anything so if anyone knows, help would be nice.
