Never crocheted or knitted, where can I get step-by-step instructions on how to get started?

I've never crocheted or knitted a day in my life, and I'd like to start. Where are some websites that will talk you through making a scarf, or a cap, or well, anything. I've tried www.redheart.com and youtube, and they don't even give me enough detail about how to start. 10 points to most informative answer. Please help, and thank you in advance!
