Pacifier for newborn?

We have a newborn and we are getting conflicting opinions. Is it ok to give a pacifier to a newborn? He is going to be fed, we were gonna use orthodontic pacifiers but few people told us that it would affect his appetite. I gave him a pacifier right now and he loves it. My question is what are cons to using a pacifier from early age?
