Beginner crochet- Help?!?

i like to crochet but i only know simple things, i can make a scarf and that's it. I want to make a blanket with the chevron afghan pattern btu i have no idea what the patterns are trying to tell me when they say "ch 2 on row 3 with color A" Please help, I need simple worded instructions that i can actually understand.
