"Hasta la vista!" and when exactly is used?

I know that this phrase means "Good bye", and absolutely not - "Farewell". So, I need you Spanish guys help me to figure out exactly when you use "Hasta la vista!". Is it used daily? or Has it acquired any specific new meaning nowadays? or...whatever it is.., please, help me.
