My HOME PREGNENCY TEST result is negative. Is it because of the improper testing?

Yesterday morning (10th day of missing my periods), I have done HPT with my first urin. I just did without reading instructions. Instructions say 2/3 drops of urin is to be pored in the test well. unknowingly I pored around 15/20 drops of urin. At the bigining of the test, as soon as the urin ped the test strip, a red spot appeared. suddenly more urin flooded into the strip and this red spot washed away and disappeared; finally ended with only one pink line. I ume that the chemical may diluted with the urin, washed away along with it and shown the negative result. Is my umption currect? I never had this many days of delay. Is there anybody who had this experience? Please share.
