What does this mean, I don't get it.?

So I was watching Seinfeld, and Kramer held his stomach and was trying to get to a bathroom but couldn't. So then he was talking with Jerry, and Kramer said he "missed his chance". He then said he tried things like bran flakes and apparatus or something. What did he mean? Was he constipated or something?
