Why does my laptop freeze with windows but not linux?

I have a Toshiba P205D-S7802 laptop which originally came with Windows Vista, the laptop ran ok for a few months but then started randomly freezing, I already tried restoring factory defaults and even tried removing Vista and installing XP but still had the same results.. I eventually found that only when the power adaptor was plugged it in would freeze but just fine on battery power, on the other hand out of curiousity I decided to try linux and it hasn't had any more issues of freezing, I tried Ubuntu,Fedora and other variants of linux, PC/OS 2009 is very user friendly and have had no issues with it but I really would like to put windows back on my laptop if I could only find a solution to the freezing problem, the Toshiba website is of no help, Anyone have any ideas?
